Saipem's SAIPEM 10000 drilling unit has been formally christened at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in Korea.

Designed to develop hydrocarbon reserves at depths of up to 10,000m in water depths of up to 3,000m, the dynamically positioned SAIPEM 10000 is being built at a cost of some $300 million.

Once commissioned, the SAIPEM 10000 will start work under a five-year contract for Eni-Agip worldwide. The first job will involved drilling in the southern Adriatic in water depths of 1,200m.
