    EDT Ares assists with search

    News // May 22, 2000
EDT reports that its newly built DPII vessel, EDT Ares was chartered by the American company Phoenix International to aid in the search and recovery of an Israeli Air Force F-16 fighter aircraft that was lost off the coast of Israel in March.

The equipment used in the search arrived at Larnaca airport from Baltimore in the US on 23 April 2000, and consisted of a 25-ton handling system for the Remora 6000 ROV, two 20-foot containers and the sonar winch and equipment.

Mobilisation commenced shortly afterwards, and the EDT Ares sailed for the crash site.

Upon locating the aircraft with the aid of the sonar, the ROV was used to recover the jet's engines, the two ejection seats, and the voice and data recorder. The water depth at the crash site is 1,500m.
