Oceaneering joins Deep Tap Team News
// May 22, 2000
Oceaneering International has announced that it has signed an agreement with three other companies - Williams, T D Williamson, and Oil States HydroTech Systems Inc - to develop cutting edge technology for performing diverless, deepwater hot taps.
Hot taps perforate flowing oil or gas pipelines, while the lines remain in service, in order to connect new pipelines to existing ones. Divers are typically used to perform such operations on offshore pipelines.
Deep Tap technology will employ equipment and processes which enable a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to reach beyond the current depth limitation of divers. With Deep Tap, ROVs will be used to connect gathering pipelines to transmission lines in waterdepths down to 10,000 feet. Patent applications have been filed, and the first commercial demonstration of the technology is scheduled for the fall of 2000.
