Croatian yard wins cable layer conversions

    Yard News // May 8, 2000
The Viktor Lenac Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia has been awarded a contract by Caldwell Cables Ventures to convert a pair of ro-ros into cable laying vessels.

Under the terms of the contract, the Croatian yard will convert the ro-ro/general cargo vessel Finnpine and the ro-ro/container ship Mother of Pearl.

Apart from modifying the ships' holds for the cable laying role, the Croatian yard will also install a new accommodation block on the Finnpine, and install spare cable tanks, remove stern ramp, a pair of pallet lifts and a cargo elevator, and close the existing hull openings. New engines and thrusters will also be installed. The second ship will receive similar modifications, with work proceeding simultaneously on the new cable layers.
