Statoil supply vessels to use LNG

    News // July 13, 2001
Statoil has revealed that the two newbuild supply vessels it will contract from Simon Mokster Shipping and Eidesvik will be the first of their type to burn LNG rather than diesel fuel oil.

Intended for use in the Tampen area of the North Sea, the newbuilds will use LNG supplied by Naturgass Vest, which will establish production of the fuel at Kollsnes.

The main reason for switching to LNG rather than fuel oil is that the emissions from the engines aboard the vessels will be significantly reduced.
