Saipem acquires Maxita

Saipem has announced that it will acquire the multi-purpose vessel Maxita from SaiClo upon completion of the Canyon Express project. Currently the project is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2002.Saipem says it plans to convert and upgrade Maxita in order to make it more powerful and efficient, to better exploit a rapidly increasing field development market.
A large 3,000t crane - currently on the craneship Pearl Marine - together with other equipment from the same vessel, will be installed on the Maxita and its dynamic positioning system will also be upgraded.
The Pearl Marine will be dismantled.
The new vessel - which will keep the capability to install flexibles, umbilicals and mooring systems in deepwater - will also be re-designed to enable it to lay of rigid lines in 'J' and 'S' mode.
