SB Warburg: Singapore yards "will merge soon"

    News // June 1, 2001
Investment bank SB Warburg says it expects the three major shipyards in Singapore to merge sometime in the next 12 months.

The bank says it anticipates that Keppel FELS Energy & Infrastructure's offshore operations will merge with its shipbuilding division, Keppel Hitachi Zosen, and that after this a merger with rival SembCorp Marine will take place.

Speculation about a consolidation within the Singapore shipbuilding and ship repair industry has been rife for sometime, and Keppel Corporation and SembCorp Industries are known to have held talks about a merger.
