Wijsmuller to merge with A P Moller subsidiary

    News // June 1, 2001
A/S Svitzer, a subsidiary of A P Moller in Denmark, is to acquire 100 per cent of the shares of Wijsmuller Groep Holding BV in IJmuiden, The Netherlands.

Wijsmuller is one of the world's leading providers of harbour and terminal towage and salvage services, and operates a fleet of more than 150 vessels in 21 countries, and employs more than 1,000 people. In 2000 Wijsmuller reported a turnover of NLG 261.9million with a net profit of NLG 22.3 million.

The Executive Board of Wijsmuller said it believed that the combination of the global reach of Wijsmuller and the strength of the Svitzer/AP Møller Group would create a unique platform to deliver future growth in the global marine services market.

The Svitzer group currently operates 72 vessels and employs 620 people, providing towage and salvage services in Denmark and Sweden, bulk transportation (tug & barge) throughout Northern Europe, and safety standby vessels and survey vessels, primarily inthe Northern Sea.

Svitzer and Wijsmuller say Wijsmuller will remain as the focus for the future development of international towage and salvage activities within the enlarged organisation, and it is not envisaged that there will be any job losses as a result of the merger.
