    ENSCO earns MMS safety award

    ENSCO International Incorporated has announced that ENSCO Offshore Company has been awarded the US Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) 2000 Safety Award for Excellence in the drilling contractor category.

    The award was presented to ENSCO by Gale A Norton, Secretary of the Interior. In presenting the award, Secretary Norton commented, "These prestigious awards recognise exemplary company performance and corporate commitment to safe offshore oil and gas operations and fiscal responsibility. The winners of these awards represent the best of the energy industry and set a standard that all companies should strive to achieve."

    This is the second year in a row that ENSCO was a finalist for the nationalaward.

    In addition to receiving the national award this year, ENSCO Offshore Company also received two regional awards for its Gulf of Mexico operations.

    The MMS Lafayette District awarded ENSCO the SAFE Award in the local districtdrilling contractor category, and the New Orleans District awarded ENSCO andTexaco a SAFE award for the operation of ENSCO 25 on Texaco's Petronius platform.

    Carl Thorne, ENSCO's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented,"these awards from the MMS are particularly gratifying given the efforts byour people, in concert with our customers, and in partnership with the FederalGovernment, to integrate safety as a value, not just a priority or newinitiative. Preventing harm to people and the environment will continue toreceive our utmost attention."
