Fast track conversion completed by Keppel

    News // April 20, 2001
Keppel Shipyard - part of Keppel Hitachi Zosen (KHZ) in Singapore - has completed the fast track conversion of a Floating Storage & Offloading (FSO) vessel.

The S$7 million ($3.9 million) project saw the Floating Storage & Offloading (FSO) vessel Karratha Spirit delivered on 06 April, having been converted from the 106,668dwt Aframax tanker Pioneer Spirit.

Karratha Spirit Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Teekay Shipping - the world's largest owner and operator of Aframax tankers - awarded the conversion contract. The Pioneer Spirit arrived at Keppel Shipyard in early February this year.

The FSO will be moored in the Legendre field - located some 100 km north of Dampier in Australia's lucrative North West Shelf. Woodside Energy Ltd of Australia is the operator of the Legendre field.

The Karratha Spirit has a storage capacity of 760,000 barrels of crude oil.
