District Offshore wins contracts from Shell Expro

    News // January 26, 2001
District Offshore in Norway has announced that Shell UK Exploration and Production (Shell Expro) has placed contracts for two newbuild platform supply vessels. The contracts, awarded following a tender exercise, are worth approximately NOK 370 million.

The first vessel is due for delivery early in 2002, with the second later in 2002.

The initial charter period is five years for each vessel, with options to extend for up to a further five years.

George Lang, Shell Expro's Logistics Manager, said: "We are delighted to have these vessels join our operations. DOF has an excellent safety record, and the design of these ships will help us in our aim of a step change in our safety performance. In addition, the vessels will have the latest engine management systems, resulting in reduced fuel costs and significantly reduced emissions - a real benefit for the environment."

A decision has yet to be taken regarding where the vessels will be built.

Prospective yards include several Norwegian, EU and East European locations. Negotiations are expected to conclude shortly.

The new vessels will be based on the MT 6000 design.
