Thomson-CSF subsidiary, Racal Survey Group Limited, has announced that it has acquired the geotechnical company SAGE Holding AG.

Racal Survey, who previously held a 5.2 per cent equity stake in SAGE, has now taken full ownership, buying the shareholdings of the founder, Andrew Wright, of a financial investor, Pont NV and of members of the SAGE management team.

SAGE is the second largest supplier of geotechnical services to the offshore industry having completed in excess of 1,200 projects over the past fifteen years.

SAGE owns and operates a geotechnical drilling vessel and a number of mobile offshore drilling units. It has pioneered the field of offshore shallow geotechnics for investigation, burial assessment and pipeline engineering.

Both Racal Survey and SAGE have worked together on a number of oil and gas contracts including the world's largest survey project for Shell Malampaya (Philippines) in 1998.

Recently, both companies have also successfully worked together on cable route survey projects for leading telecommunication companies including Alcatel.
