North Sea market picked up in September, says broker

    News // October 15, 2004
Offshore Shipbrokers Ltd (OSL) in Aberdeen says September saw a much better month for owners in the North Sea, with rates remaining "reasonably buoyant" throughout the month.

"There was a very definite peak during the last week of the month with ratesfor AHTS reaching 21,000 and PSVs not far behind at 15,000," said the company in its latest monthly report.

"Activity in Norway however remained considerably lower than usual as the ongoing rig strike continues to hamper operations offshore. The strike has now been running for 13 weeks but once the situation has been resolved we expect to see a flurry of activity, particularly on the rig move front," said OSL.

As OSL also noted, October started slowly so far with rates quickly returning to the 5000 level as supply again outweighed demand.
