    Supply ship gets compact pods

    Vessel & ROV News // November 3, 2000
A UT 745 E supply/ROV vessel on order at Aker's Soviknes Verft shipyard in Norway is to be one of the first vessels equipped with ABB Industry Oy's Compact Azipod propulsors.

ABB says the newbuilding will be equipped with a pair of 2,300kW Compact Azipod units, which are being supplied as part of a complete power and propulsion package for the vessel.

ABB is also supplying the on board generators, emergency switchboards, convertors, a bow mounted retractable azimuthing thruster, and the electric motors for two conventional bow mounted tunnel thrusters, with which the vessel will also be equipped.

The company is also supplying a power management system for the newbuilding and an AUTR dynamic positioning system.
