    Deepsea ROV ordered

    Vessel & ROV News // January 4, 2002
Southampton Oceanography Centre in the UK has commissioned the construction of what it claims is the world's first remotely operated vehicle (ROV) dedicated to deepsea exploration and research.

The new ROV will be capable of carrying out research down to a depth of 6,500m.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute's Deep Submergence Group, working closely with a team of British experts is building the customised ROV.

The ROV is due to be commissioned early in 2003 and will be available for use by researchers throughout the UK.
