    Balder conversion approaches completion

    News // November 2, 2001
The conversion of Heerema's 5,000t semi-submersible crane vessel Balder into a deepwater offshore crane vessel is approaching completion at Verolme Botlek repair yard in the Netherlands.

The contract to convert the Balder to its new role is the largest offshore job undertaken to date by Verolme Botlek, and should extend the operating life of the Balder by another 15 years.

Verolme Botlek's role in the conversion is due to be converted this month, allowing the Balder to re-enter service in the first quarter of 2002.
