    North Sea standby vessel update

    News // September 7, 2001
Offshore Shipbrokers reports that BP has awarded Bristow Helicopters the contract for trials of Operation Jigsaw.

Bristow will outfit a Super Puma AS 322L2 aircraft for the role and if successful the intention is to replace standby vessels at some locations.

Whilst BP claim that the aim of the project is to provide an enhanced search and rescue service the Emergency Rescue & Response Vessel Association (ERRVA, formerly the Standby Ship Operators Association) claim it to be a cost cutting exercise.

The trials should ready to start late 2002 which leaves plenty of time for opinions to be aired.
