Aker Maritime has strong second quarter News

Improved operational performance in its main business units and project achievements resulted in a strong second quarter for Aker Maritime. Profit after financial items for the first six months of 2001 was NOK 210 million compared with a loss of NOK 44 million in the same period last year.
Overall market conditions and utilisation of facilities and resources developed favourably for both business areas. Improved project performance contributed significantly to the financial results in the period.
The Aker oil and gas business area reports revenues up 40 per cent in the second quarter compared with first quarter this year.
Offshore maintenance activity has been running at a high level, and major field development projects are gaining pace as they now enter the fabrication stages.
Through systematic improvement initiatives, Aker Maritime says this particular business area has reduced overhead costs this year by 25 per cent compared with the first six months last year.
