    North Sea: new fields reach new high

    The Scotsman newspaper reports that approvals of new fields in the UK sector of the North Sea hit a six-year high last year.

    The Scotsman report says that a total of 21 new fields, costing 2.5 billion in total to develop, were approved by the Department of Primary Industry during the year, according to the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA).

    The UKOOA report also said capital investment in 2001 was up 25 per cent to 3.5 billion.
