Marathon comments on well control event

    News // April 12, 2002
Marathon Canada Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Company, has announced that it recently experienced and contained a well-control eventcaused by an influx of gas at the company's Annapolis deepwater exploratorywell offshore Nova Scotia. The Annapolis B-24 well is located 350km (215 miles) south of Halifax in 1,740m (5,700ft) of water.

Drilling of the well was suspended on March 24 when the gas influx occurred at an intermediate well depth of 3,500m (11,469ft). Drilling was immediately stopped and the well was brought under control without incident.

Following a detailed analysis of both the event and the condition of the well bore, the company has elected to plug and abandon the Annapolis B-24 well for mechanical reasons.
