MCA conducts major exercise off Aberdeen

    News // February 15, 2002
A major maritime exercise conducted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) took place in Aberdeen on 29th January 2002. More than 200 people took part, representing over 20 organisations.

Exercise Discovery was carried out to test the interaction between the DTI, MCA, oil companies and organisations that provide emergency services around Scotland and in the North Sea.

It also tested national and local authorities and emergency services preparedness for a major maritime and oil incident in the area, although the `incident' was simulated well over 100 miles out to sea. The Exercise was due to include long distance search and rescue operations and counter pollution activities.
