    Shell outlines plans for FLNG

    News // December 6, 2002
Shell has confirmed that it is at an advanced stage of planning for a floating vessel capable of exploiting oil and gas fields simultaneously.

The so-called Floating Oil and Gas (FONG) vessel is designed to develop remote or stranded hydrocarbons resources, in areas where it would be prohibitively expensive to lay pipelines.

Shell says the first FONG could be operational as early as 2007-2008.
