BOSCA to host oil spill event

    News // October 25, 2002
The British Oil Spill Control Association (BOSCA) will be hosting a 'Spill Contracting in the 21st Century' event next month to highlight its Oil Spill Response Accreditation Scheme. Participants will get the opportunity to learn more about the scheme and discuss how it can evolve for the benefit of the industries it supports.

The scheme assesses contractors' capability to respond to different types of spills in different environments. Companies accredited to the scheme will be listed on the Society of Maritime Industries web-site and accessible to the maritime industry, worldwide.

The event will be held at the Hilton Hotel, in Warwick on Friday 8th November and will commence at 10am. Speakers from the Environment Agency, The Maritime Coastguard Agency, Abzorboil and Biffa Waste Services will be in attendance to discuss current issues and review the latest products and services available. A wide range of participants are expected to take part from contractors, equipment manufacturers and those who produce, store or use oil products.

Fifteen companies will also have the opportunity to exhibit at the event and talk to guests about their products and services.

BOSCA has links to environmental agencies and maintain close ties with the major oil operators, shipping interests and central and local government emergency services. It is concerned with the control, clean-up and prevention of pollution incidents in marine and freshwater, as well as on-land environments. BOSCA is consulted by government departments on matters related to the pollution control and response industry. BOSCA has a comprehensive list of accredited UK oil spill contractors and is the custodian of a unique UK knowledge base on spill response technology.
