Caspian Geophysical completes multi-component survey over Azeri sector of Caspian

    News // October 11, 2002
Caspian Geophysical, the joint venture between WesternGeco and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, has successfully completed a multi-component (4C) 3D seismic survey over Azerbaijan International Operating Company's (AIOC) Azeri field operatedby BP.

While final processing is not completed, preliminary results indicate that the continuity of target horizons has been significantly improved. This is the first time that data beneath a mud volcano has been successfully imaged.

The improved images are expected to assist BP in reducing the number of wells to be drilled, and allow better positioning of wells with less non-productive time during drilling. Therefore, the field will be brought into production more rapidly, and AIOCwill benefit by delivering the oil to the market faster.

On September 26, 2002, BP awarded Caspian Geophysical another contract for a 3D 4C seismic survey over the deep-water portion of the Gunashli field in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli PSA area. It is expected that acquisition of this survey will be completed during late December 2002 or early January 2003.
