CGG Harmattan awarded 3D survey off northern Brazil

    News // October 11, 2002
Brazilian oil company, Petrobras, has awarded CGG a 3D survey over two new prospective areas off the north coast of Brazil for a total surface area of 2,620 sq km.

The survey location is in a new area of interest for Petrobras, covering blocks BM-CE-1 and BM-CE-2 in the Bacia de Ceara et Potiguar and blocks BM BAR-1 over the Bacia de Barreirinhas, in one of the world's last remaining unexplored basins. Petrobras isa 100 % operator in these blocks awarded during last year's third ANP round.

To conduct this survey, the first 3D to be shot in these virgin waters, CGG will be able to capitalise on experience gained during the CGG Alizé's recent acquisition of nearby block BM-FZA-1 on behalf of BP. This survey will secure work for the CGG Harmattan for the first half of 2003.
