    Secunda starts JV with African empowerment firm

    In an empowerment deal within the maritime sector, Mvelaphanda Energy in South Africa and Secunda Marine Holdings have joined forces in new JV Mvelaphanda Marine.

    Mvelaphanda holds a 51 per cent majority equity interest in the new joint venture with consulting, design and management firm, ARCUS GIBB, Secunda Marine Services, a Canadian based marine operator holding 49 per cent.

    Secunda Marine is a leading marine company and owns/operates a fleet of over 25 vessels including platform supply vessels, dive support vessels, cable layers and general cargo vessels.

    Steve Maier the Global Marketing Manager for Secunda, said "we are very excited about this new partnership with Mvelaphanda Energy. There are great opportunities out there and we are looking forward to working with Mvela."

    Philip Rhind, CEO of Mvelaphanda Energy said, "This move compliments our broad strategy in the energy sector and component is aimed also at accelerating empowerment in the maritime sector. The new company will provide training opportunities for previously disadvantaged candidates and will boost empowerment in this key sector. The new company Mvelaphanda Marine will operate primarily within the oilfield services and fuels logistics sector initially in South and West African waters."
