    Offshore Crane Operations and Safety Conference 2003

    The American Petroleum Institute (API) is to hold a conference on offshore cranes and safety in June.

    "Offshore Crane Operations and Safety Conference 2003" takes place 24-25 June 2003 in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the Lafayette Hilton, and is co-sponsored by the Minerals Management Service, Offshore Operators Committee, International Association of Drilling Contractors, Offshore Marine Service Association, National Ocean Industries Association, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

    The two-day programme features speakers from government and the energy industry who have access to up-the-minute information on operational and regulatory issues.

    Several panels will address:

    * Safety through equipment design and through training

    * Best practices in crane inspection and maintenance

    * Cargo handling and rigging

    * Rental crane and temporary crane service

    * Regulatory enforcement and new initiatives

    * International crane operations and safety issues.

    The keynote address will be given by Bill Flores, Vice President of Operations, Ocean Energy, Inc. Other guest speakers include: Chuck Schoennagel, Gulf of Mexico Deputy Regional Director, US Minerals Management Service; Captain Dan Ryan, US Coast Guard;Vic Maia, Southwest Wire Rope Company; and Tony Dotto, Crane Technical Training & Inspection, Inc, among many others.
