URS takes delivery of Union Manta

    Vessel & ROV News // April 25, 2003
URS in Antwerp, Belgium, has taken delivery of the anchor handler Union Manta, which was built by Orskovs shipyard in Denmark.

The Union Manta is designed around two 10,000hp engines and a number of powerful winches. The drum of the largest winch holds an 8km long wire rope with a 76mm diameter. The vessel has a rated bollard pull of 210 tonnes. In addition, the afterdeck is equipped with a so-called A-frame with a 200 tonnes pull.

Her bollard pull allows the Union Manta to tow drilling rigs and large floating cranes, and pontoons, along with pre-fabricated pipelines several kilometres long. The vessel can also plough trenches at great depths to accommodate pipelines of 2m diameter.

Union Manta has also been built with foundations for a ROV crane and a second A frame for handling ROVs.
