    MSC details Maersk rig design

    Marine Structure Consultants (MSC) has revealed more details of the DSS20-CAS-M semi-submersibles that Keppel FELS in building for Maersk.

    MSC says the DSS20-CAS-M design is intended as a cost-effective drilling unit that provides optimal operational capacity and safety features. The unit is well suited for the operations in the Caspian Sea in water depths up to 1,000m. It can drill in up to 9,140m of water with a variable deckload of 4,000t.

    The unit will operate in the Caspian Sea under a long-term contract with Exxon Azerbaijan Operating Company LLC and Chevron Overseas Petroleum Azerbaijan Limited which have Production Sharing Agreements with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

    In fact, the unit is being jointly built by Keppel FELS in Singapore and Caspian Shipyard Cooperation (CSC) in Baku. Final assembly will take place at Baku, and delivery is schedule for the third quarter of 2003.
