// March 14, 2003
The French company ECA, which specialises in the design and manufacture of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) has released more details about the ALISTAR Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) that it is developing.
The ALISTAR AUV family has a 300-3000m depth rating. A 300m demonstrator was first tested at sea beginning of 2002 and the main results were presented during the UDT 2002 European conference at La Spezia, Italy.
The main roles identified for the ALISTER are military, but the system is also capable of performing high resolution survey missions.
ALISTAR is thus also well suited to applications such as pipeline inspection, monitoring risers, and hydrographic survey.
The ALISTAR 300 is a 600kg vehicle, powered by four propellers and two vertical thrusters. The vehicle is 3.2m in length, 1.1m wide, and 1.3m high. Its power source includes secondary lithium ion batteries. The maximum speed of the AUV is about 8 knots.
