    Østensjø Rederi re-registers five vessels

    Company News // May 13, 2016

Østensjø Rederi has decided to re-register five of its offshore vessels away from the Norwegian flag. Around 40 jobs will be lost as a result.

The following vessels are changing to the NIS flag:

    • Edda Fauna
    • Edda Flora
    • Edda Fonn
    • Edda Freya (newbuild)
    • Edda Ferd

"The decision to change flag was made after dialogue with employee representatives," said the company. "Based on the market and reduced earnings, we have decided to change the ship register for the vessels. We have tried to keep this type of vessel under the Norweigan flag as long as possible, but this is no longer cost competitive."

" As an alternative to a foreign flag, we looked at the possibility of switching to NIS flag. The company and union representatives consider the NIS their preferred solution rather than a foreign flag."

The decision is expected to lead to layoffs, fewer layoffs than would have been the case in the company had opted for a foreign flag.
