Ooredoo begins marine surveys for Maldives submarine cable projectProjects and Operations // April 8, 2016
Telecom company Ooredoo Maldives has commenced offshore marine surveys in preparation for its nationwide fibre optic submarine cable network project. Ooredoo had teamed up with Huawei Marine Networks to connect the archipelago with the latter’s 100G transmission solution which will cover an area of 1,200km.
The surveys for the submarine cable network project are being conducted aboard an exploration survey vessel, Duke. The vessel is now collecting the data needed by Huawei Marine to design the submarine cable system for the Maldives’ marine environment.
Ooredoo said in a statement that Huawei Marine’s submarine cable will give a boost to Ooredoo’s network performance and meet the needs and demands of businesses and households for mobile broadband and fibre optic internet services. Ooredoo estimates that the project to lay the submarine cable network across the archipelago will be underway in mid-2016.
