    Svitzer Wijsmuller places largest tug order

    Seabrokers reported in its January issue of Seabreeze that SvitzerWijsmuller, the Danish salvage and tug operator, has placed orders for no less than 29 new tugs totaling an estimated $120 million - a package they believe is the biggest for tugs ever seen.

    The ships have been ordered from several yards, on the basis they are needed to meet the increasing number of global projects the company is involved with, and also as part of a fleet renewal programme.

    All of the ships will be delivered between 2003 and 2006.

    The tug orders are listed as follows:- 14 ex-Denmark's Odense Steel Shipyard (six plus eight options, to be built at the yard'sBaltija Steel Shipyard in Lithuania);

    - 4 ex-Zamakona, Bilbao, Spain;

    - 3 ex-Strategic Marine, Perth, Australia;

    - 6 ex-ASL, Singapore;

    - 2 currently undisclosed.
