More safety standby vessels likely to go for scrap

    News // February 14, 2003
Offshore Shipbrokers Ltd (OSL) in the UK says the safety standby vessel market in the North Sea "is depressed" and whilst there have been a number of vessels in lay-up for some considerable time, "a number of operational vessels are joining them throughlack of chartering opportunities."

"Many of the vessels that have been there for sometime will not again sail as standby vessels in the North Sea and will head for other areas or the scrap yards," said OSL in its latest monthly report.

"We note that helicopter trials are taking place and BP are talking to shipyards on their potentialnewbuilding programme. However we wonder what impact, if any, the sale of some of theirassets will have on Jigsaw - the outcome is awaited with interest," said OSL.
