    L & M Bo-Truc orders OSV at Bollinger

    Vessel & ROV News // January 23, 2004
L & M Bo-Truc Rental of Golden Meadow Louisiana has placed an order with Bollinger Shipyards for two offshore supply vessels. In the half century since Minor Cheramie founded the company it has grown to be one of the largest privately held supply boat companies with 16 vessels from 166ft to 235ft operating in the Gulf of Mexico.

Now operated by the second generation of the Cheramie family, the firm's capabilities will be significantly enhanced by the new vessels. At 191ft in length with a 46ft beam the vessels will have a moulded depth of 15ft. Each vessel will have a pair of Cummins KTA50 main engines rated for 1,600hp continuous duty at 1,800rpm. Gears will turn an 84 x 67in propeller through a Twin Disc MG 56 Series 6.4:1.

Each boat's Cummins power package includes two 6CTA8 3G 165Kw generator sets, one KTA19, 640hp bow thruster engine, two N14, 440 HP mud pumps and a single emergency generator set.

The boats, designed by Bollinger Lockport and L&M Botruc will each have capacities for 2,520 barrels of liquid mud and 4,800 cubic feet of bulk material. They will also carry 125,000 gallons of fuel, 255,000 gallons of water and 1,400 gallons of lube oil. Their cargo decks will take loads to 900 long tons. In addition to a six-person crew, the vessel will accommodate 12 passengers.

The first OSV, to be named Cheramie Botruc 38, is scheduled for delivery to the owners in August of 2004 with the second, Cheramie Botruc 39, to follow in two months. The DP1 and SOLAS certified vessels will be assigned to the supply and service of drilling rigs across the Gulf of Mexico.
