Waller Marine in Houston in the US has awarded a contract to design and build a dynamically positioned multipurpose cable lay barge for Rockson Engineering Ltd of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Construction of the barge will take place in a shipyard on the US Gulf Coast.

This EPC contract requires Waller to provide the turnkey supply of the barge and all specialised cable storage and lay equipment delivered to Nigeria ready to operate in the fourth quarter of 2004.

The barge, to be named Shining Star, will be designed to lay electric cable, fibre optic cable and umbilicals in waters of up to 300m.
