Wärtsilä has been contracted to undertake design work for the conversion of the PSV Vestland Cygnus, which is owned by Norway-based Norside AS, for service in the offshore wind market. The conversion will take place at the Fjellstrand yard in Norway.
The modifications includes several new features, such as an accommodation module for 134 people, a 100 tonne offshore crane and a new offshore access system for transferring personnel to offshore platforms. The modified vessel will also have SPS (Special Purpose Ships) class notation.
Following completion of the rebuild project, Vestland Cygnus will transport service personnel to and from offshore windfarms. It will be operated by Vestland Offshore. The conversion is scheduled to be completed by June 2016.
