Stevns Power lost with all hands

    News // November 21, 2003
It is with great sadness that we have to report the loss of the Stevns Power with all hands off the West African coast.

The vessel was built as the Maersk Beater in 1976 with 8,400bhp.

The anchor hander went down 50 nautical miles off the southern Nigerian oil city of Port Harcourt with six Filipinos, three Danes and two Congolese aboard.Stevns Power had reportedly been dropping anchor next to a larger supply vessel, and apparently sank quickly when it capsized without warning.

The weather at the time was said to be fine.

Stevns Power was working with one of the world's largest pipelay barges, Castro Otto, at the time.
