    Bonga beings journey to Nigeria

    AMEC's Wallsend facility on Tyneside finished outfitting the 300,000dwtFloating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel Bonga on 19 Octoberand watched it begin a 4,770 nautical mile journey to Nigeria.

    It arrived at the yard almost a year ago after the hull was completed at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.

    The vessel, which can store two million barrels of oil was towed to the mouth of the Tyne by seven tugs where it was undertaken by three large ocean-going tugs to complete the 36-day journey to Nigeria. The Shell International STASCO owned-vessel will bepositioned 120km off the Niger Delta to operate in Shell's Nigeria Bonga Field. Oil will be exported by tankers and gas will be pumped to the Bonny LNG plant
