MCA welcomes new emergency towing vessel

    News // November 7, 2003
The UK MCA's Chief Executive, Captain Stephen Bligh and the Chief Coastguard, John Astbury, toured the recently delivered Emergency Towing Vessel Anglian Sovereign recently in Shetland.

Also invited to tour the new vessel, were representatives from Shetland Islands Council and Port and Harbour masters.

The Anglian Sovereign is a purpose built Emergency Towing Vessel, which remains on stand by in the Shetland area and demonstrates the MCA's and the Government's continuing commitment to protecting the coast of the Northern Isles. She joins three other MCA vessels based at Stornoway, Dover and Falmouth, in providing emergency towing cover at the four strategic corners of the UK.

Stephen Bligh, MCA's Chief Executive said: ""She is a magnificent vessel and I am sure that she will serve these waters well, although I very much hope that her time here will be quiet. But I am confident that if she does get called into action then sheis well equipped and crewed to rise to the challenge."
