DOF's subsea vessel Skandi Africa, which was delivered by Vard Søviknes to DOF Subsea, has been named as Skipsrevyen's 'Ship of the Year 2015'.

The award was presented by Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry, Monica Mæland, at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Oslo.

Skandi Africa was designed and equipped for subsea operations with a focus on seakeeping capability, excellent stationkeeping performance and low fuel consumption.

The DP class 3 vessel is designed for harsh environments and for deep water subsea construction and flexlay operations in water depths of up to 3,000m.

The ship has a 900 tonne pedestal mounted crane with subsea lowering system and combined active and passive heave compensation system.

In addition, there is a 650 tonne tiltable lay system for flexible pipes, and pipe storage equipment with a 3,500 tonne basket.

The ROV hangar is equipped with two heavy duty work ROVs launched through moonpools to a depth of 4,000m. The moonpools have damping zones.
