Damen undertakes upgrade work on Seawell

    Yard News // November 27, 2014

After having successfully docked and repaired the light well intervention/dive support vessel Seawell in 2012 and the DSV Well Enhancer earlier this year, Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen has been awarded a contract by Helix UK for a major upgrade on Seawell.

The vessel is expected at the yard in the second half of December 2014.

The upgrade will be executed over the winter season, and Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen will make use of its covered drydock with a 300 tonne overhead crane.

The upgrade includes an exchange of all six gensets including new foundations, an overhaul of all of the thrusters and azimuthing thrusters, replacement of two cherry pickers and the existing twin slewing cranes by a new single boom 50 tonne crane with active heave compensation.

All of the switchboards will be renewed and the accommodation will be upgraded. A new derrick with all associated equipment will be installed and work will be undertaken on the moonpool doors, winches and other equipment. The vessel's statutory docking will also commence during this refit period.
