Icon simulators for C-MAR facilities in London and Mumbai

    Training // September 2, 2014

C-MAR Group has commissioned Rolls-Royce Icon dynamic positioning simulators at its DP Training Centres in London and Mumbai. The new simulators are being used to deliver advanced DP courses run at both facilities.

C-MAR says that although the industry standard Nautical Institute Simulator Training Course permits training on just one system, the acquisition of the Rolls-Royce simulators "further demonstrates the company’s commitment to setting new standards of excellence in DP training."

C-MAR claims to be unique in being the only global DP training organisation with different manufacturers equipment in all its regional training centres: London, Mumbai, Croatia, Singapore and Brazil.

Students benefit from the use of a multiple simulators to develop and strengthen their knowledge and skills. This instils greater confidence in practical operation and gives a deeper understanding of how DP controls work to deliver the vessel’s task, from dive support and anchor handling to platform supply and drilling operations.

C-MAR Chief Operating Officer Peter Aylott commented: “The response to the equipment has been overwhelmingly positive, both from new students and those experienced DP operators returning to us for refresher courses. We are proud of the role that C-MAR continues to play in our industry by offering our students the very best training and technology in their preparation for future careers”.

Educated in the architecture of different programmes and able to explore Human Machine and Graphic User interfaces, students will adapt more easily to different programmes during their working life, ultimately making them better officers. They will also learn how different manufacturers approach the challenges posed by dynamic positioning operations.

Daniel O’Connor, VP Training & Field Service Development, Rolls-Royce, said: " "Our agreement with C-MAR has proved very successful for both organisations in helping provide course participants with a world class training experience through the use of our state-of-the-art Icon DP simulation equipment, which is regularly maintained and kept up-to-date with the latest software developments and upgrades.”
