Volstad Shipping's latest newbuild project gets under wayVessel & ROV News // February 4, 2014
The contract for Volstad Shipping's latest newbuild, a new version of the Skipsteknisk ST-259 design, has come into effect.
In 2013, the Norwegian company signed a contract with Turkish shipyard Tersan for the construction of the offshore construction vessel. The financing is now in place and the contract is in effect.
Although construction of the vessel will take place abroad, the contract will be of great value to many Norwegian suppliers. Approximately 50 per cent of the contract value is related to Norwegian equipment and services.
The new vessel's dimensions are 128 x 25m. The newbuild has 'Arctic' designation and is designed for operations in Arctic waters, with significant ice class, ROV moonpools and de-icing. The vessel is fitted with a 300 tonne offshore crane, accommodation for 120, and has triple redundant propulsion systems.
The new vessel is due to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2015.
