A2SEA takes delivery of SWATH vesselVessel & ROV News // May 2, 2013
On 3 April 2013, offshore wind specialist A2SEA took delivery of the first of four new small waterplane area twin hull (SWATH) type crew vessels.
The first of the new crew vessels is named Ssea Breeze and was built by Odfjell Wind A/S at Danish Yacht’s in Skagen, Denmark.
Ssea Breeze will be deployed at the Lincs offshore windfarm situated 8km off the coast of Lincolnshire, near Skegness in the UK. A2SEA will manage the crew vessel.
“We are very excited about our new crew vessel and we have high expectation for its abilities in the field. The vessel is able to operate as a regular catamaran during transit and then ballast down to SWATH mode when approaching the turbine," said Pauli Danielsen, a vessel superintendent at A2SEA.
"The SWATH mode lowers the vessel in the water and reduces movement significantly so it becomes a more stable and a much safer platform during transfer."
