Seven Borealis to undertake first project in Norwegian sectorProjects and Operations // November 21, 2012
As highlighted previously in Offshore Shipping Online, Subsea 7 was recently awarded an US$800 million SURF contract from Total E&P Norge AS for the development of the gas field Martin Linge, lwhich is ocated 180km west of Bergen in the North Sea.
The work will be performed by several ships, including the new pipelaying/heavy lfit vessel Seven Borealis, which was designed by Ulstein Group.
The duration of the contract is estimated at four years, and comprises engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPIC) of the complete Subsea facilities on the field including: a 160 km power cable from the Martin Linge platform to Kollsnes; a 70km export pipeline and associated valve structures, umbilical and spools for the gas export system; a 55km fibre optic cable; and a 3km pipeline and riser system from the Martin Linge platform to the floating storage unit. The contract also includes transportation and installation of the mooring system for the floating storage unit. The recently delivered Seven Borealis will install the gas export pipeline on the project.
The vessel is based on the ULSTEIN SOC5000 design from Ulstein Sea of Solutions and is 182.2m in legnth with a breadth of 46.2m, moulded depth of 16.1m and is able to reach a speed of 12 knots in transit from one operating area to another.
The vessel is equipped with the world´s largest revolving mast crane, capable of lifting 5,000 tonnes (at 40m) over the stern. The crane has a maximum operating depth of 6,000m with single fall.
For general support and deck handling, the vessel is equipped with three auxiliary cranes (two 40 tonne knuckleboom cranes located starboard and portside) and a 36 tonnes pedestal mounted crane on portside. The vessel is also equipped with a 1,000 tonne J-Lay tower and a 600 tonne S-Lay system.
