Blue Offshore completes turntable
Equipment & Technology - June 26, 2012
Blue Offshore has announced that it completed the construction phase of the company’s first self-owned cable carousel system, Turntable I.
Turntable I has passed Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure it meets the design and performs as required.
Turntable I was designed by the Blue Offshore in-house engineering department in co-operation with Caley Ocean Systems. The entire system was assembled at the Swan Hunter Yard in Newcastle (UK).
The 23m outer diameter turntable can handle a cable load capacity of approximately 5,000 tonnes and is upgradeable to 28m and 32m, with respectively 7,000 and 9,000 tonnes cable load capacities.
The complete system includes the uniquely adaptable modular turntable system, loading arm assembly, tensioners, trackways and associated equipment.
Turntable I with its loading tower and additional equipment will be mobilised on a new DP2 cable installation vessel from Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) in the third quarter of 2012.
