Farstad to take delivery of PSV complying with chemical tanker requirementsVessel & ROV News // April 17, 2012
Far Solitaire will be delivered in October.
Farstad is to take delivery of what it describes as a 'chemical tanker compliant' PSV, Far Solitaire, in October.
The design of the technologically advanced vessel was developed by Farstad in close co-operation with Rolls Royce Marine and is the first vessel of its kind ever built.
Said Farstad: "The offshore oil industry has over the years become more and more dependent on chemicals and noxious liquids in order to improve operational efficiency and maintain safety standards. At the same time, restrictions for offshore disposal of the same have become more stringent for environmental reasons.
"These liquids need to be transported to and from the offshore installations, which needs PSVs fit for this purpose. However, a conventional vessel defined by the rules as a cargo vessel is limited to carrying a maximum 800m3 of these liquids on board at the time, which often is insufficient."
The steel hull of the vessel recently arrived from STX OSV Tulcea, Romania. Far Solitaire is currently under outfitting at STX OSV Langsten in Norway. The vessel is designated UT754WP.
More follows in subsequent updates.
