Montco Offshore has added a new lifttboat to its fleet which it claims is the world’s largest.
The vessel, built by Gulf Island Fabrication and its marine-construction subsidiary in Houma, will be used to decommission rigs and platforms.
Joe Orgeron, Montco’s chief technology officer, said the new liftboat is the seventh in the company’s fleet.
Typical liftboats measure about 130ft long with a breadth of 80ft wide, with legs that measure up to 250ft.
Montco’s new vessel, Liftboat Robert, is 290ft in length with a breadth of 135ft, with 335ft legs.
