VT to undertake offshore and repair work in New Zealand

    Yard News // July 9, 2004
Fairplay ( reports that now that VT Fitzroy has won the contract to manage the Royal New Zealand Navy's Devonport Dockyard, it plans to start ship repair and offshore work within the commercial sector.

"The contract is reportedly worth NZ$30 million (US$19.4 million) a year and the company plans to invest NZ$4 million over the next few years to modernise the Auckland site," said Fairplay.

David Hobbs, VT Fitzroy's MD, said winning repair work was "an important driver" in reducing the base's operational overheads.

VT Fitzroy, a joint venture between the UK's VT and Fitzroy Engineering of New Plymouth, hopes to secure contracts from Australia and the south-west Pacific.
